Solitude is actively growing a large and engaged community in Pax Dei Early Access. Our current goals are to be both experimental and positive during early access in the way that we explore and approach in-game content. These goals are in place to build a sense of purpose and establish a clear plan on day one of release in order to be immediately effective in that purpose.

Solitude provides opt-in systems designed and continually optimized for a large clan. These systems reward and encourage participation rather than penalize non-participation or setting activity or material expectations on members.

If you are excited about participating in a big, active, and highly organized community that wants to excel and shine at release, read the charter below and apply!

Pax Dei currently allows for an Alderman (clan leader), Elders (officers), and villagers (members). In addition to these ranks, Solitude defines three different roles each with specific responsibilities. The roles are Quartermaster, Delvemaster, and Buildmaster. Elders are required to fulfill at least one role; however, non-Elders may take on roles in some cases.

Quartermasters are responsible for clan missions and supply. These responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing mission completions
  • Moving finished goods that are completed through the missions system to their designated storage locations
  • Manually creating missions as necessary in order to maintain clan supply quotas in cases where automated projects do not keep up with demand

Delvemasters are experienced raid leaders and organizers. Their responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling events
  • Leading raids

Buildmasters are proven, prolific, and talented builders in charge of the main base and other critical or aesthetic bases, features, and/or structures. Their responsibilities are:

  • Providing plots for critical builds
  • Building, maintaining, and improving clan bases to the highest standard of aesthetics and functionality

What Solitude Provides (our systems)

Solitude seeks to be a large, engaged, and positive community that provides its members with sustained activity and long-term vision. In order to achieve this, well orchestrated discord based and in-game systems have been put in place to encourage and reward participation with the aim of keeping members supplied, outfitted, and successful in all of their endeavors.

Sols (clan currency)

To that end, Solitude maintains a clan currency called "Sols". Sols are not a currency used to trade or barter, but is instead used to fairly distribute rare and "best-in-slot" equipment through a need vs. greed auction system managed within discord.

Sols are a measure of participation and activity and will be familiar to people who have experience with DKP and similar loot distribution systems. However, instead of being earned solely through raid attendance, Sols are also earned through materiel support of the clan, its members, and participation in other non-raid activities. This means that people who prefer to engage with the clan through gathering, crafting, or marketeering are rewarded the same as people who prefer to raid or PvP. The result is a system that supports all clan members regardless of play style as a community of individual players supporting the larger and collective goals of the clan.

Projects and Missions

Missions are appeals for goods or services for the clan and are one of the primary ways to earn Sols.

Projects are sequences of gathering, refining, and crafting missions that continuously produce batches of finished goods and equipment.

The goods and equipment produced through projects are used to maintain the clan supply of items made available for consumption/use by all clan members. Surplus supply is sold at market for clan gold.

Missions and projects are maintained and reviewed by Quartermasters.

Requests

Requests are member-to-member appeals for goods or services. Both issuing and fulfilling a request through discord earns Sols from the clan. The issuer may offer additional Sols of their own as a bonus reward.

Raids and Events

Solitude runs formal raids for all dungeons, temples, and occasional PvP events. During formal raids and events master loot is utilized where all non-trash drops go to the clan (with the exception of items collected by individuals from loot piles). Participation is tracked and Sols are earned for every 15 minutes of participation. The clan produces equipment from these raids and in-turn auctions it for members via the need vs. greed auction system.

Raid frequency will vary based on several factors such as availability of progression content or the number of Delvemasters and their personal availability.

Generally speaking, the number of formal, clan-sponsored raids per week during non-progression varies, but is about two per week on average preferring west-coast (Pacific) raid times on Thursdays-Saturdays. As the clan grows and additional Delvemasters are identified, additional formal raids are possible each week.

When progression (new) content is available, Solitude will seek to implement increasingly aggressive, fixed schedules.

Auctions

Best in slot equipment produced by the clan is auctioned roughly every Friday in discord. Items auctioned typically consist of magical equipment produced from relics acquired from raids or complete sets of non-magical armor produced through project missions.

Auctions take 48 hours to resolve and are resolved using Sols and a Need vs. Greed system. Specifically:

  • If any eligible Need bids exist for the auction, then the Need-bidder with the most Sols will win, and all of their Sols will be consumed/reset.
  • Further, if the auction is for an item produced from a relic obtained during a specific raid/event, then Need bids by participants of that event are given priority.
  • When no eligible Need bids exist for an auction, then random selection from the pool of all Greed-bidders is used. No Sols are used/consumed when winning a bid through Greed.
  • If there is no winner/interest, the item will be listed at market for public sale.
  • To be eligible to win an auction, the bidder must have positive, non-zero Sols.

The strengths of this system are that it...

  • is open and deterministic
  • prevents hoarding Sols and creating a barrier for new members
  • allows non-raiders to obtain items while prioritizing raiders
  • rewards more active members while not preventing less active members from receiving loot
Other Systems

Solitude offers many other, more minor systems, such as Mailboxes and the "Ding" system which rewards players for keeping their skill levels up to date. Furthermore, Solitude believes in continuous iteration and improvement to all of its systems through member feedback and suggestions.

What Solitude Expects

In alignment with its goals of becoming a large, positive, ever-active clan, Solitude expects the following from all of its members:

  • Keeping a positive mental attitude
  • Representing Solitude well on the server and to the larger Pax Dei community
  • Embracing continuous experimentation and iteration in the clan's systems and how it operates
  • Participating in and using clan systems
  • Leaving real life politics, religion, opinions, and beliefs at the door. Most of us game to escape these divisive things and instead find common ground through the game.
  • Respecting all members of the discord server, independent of whether or not they are members of the clan.
Activity Requirement

At the moment there is no formal activity requirement. Currently clan leadership will periodically review members and may release those not seen in a while or who do not actively participate in clan systems. In the future a more rigid system may be explored if the game justifies it. For now, we choose to simply reward and celebrate our most active members.
